Zoom for Government and Zoom for Defense are designed for agencies across the three branches of government, national public institutions, branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, state and local governments, and approved contractors that collaborate with federal agencies.
The Zoom for Government and Zoom for Defense platforms offer a similar experience as the commercial Zoom platform, but operate in a dedicated, U.S.-based GovCloud infrastructure designed to meet the requirements of FedRAMP Moderate baseline and DoD Impact Level 4. Zoom for Government, Zoom for Defense, and commercial Zoom use the same codebase, but Zoom for Government and Zoom for Defense updates are generally released on a separate schedule, which can be up to several weeks after the updates are implemented on the commercial Zoom platform.
Agencies and employees can collaborate with confidence using Zoom for Government and Zoom for Defense. These platforms are specifically designed to meet the stringent security, privacy, and operational requirements of the U.S. Government and the U.S. Department of Defense, respectively.

Zoom for Defense has officially received authorization from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for Impact Level 4 (IL4) communications on the DoD’s NIPRNet. This authorization builds on Zoom’s previous DISA and U.S. Air Force Authorities to Operate (ATOs) and now enables IL4 collaboration directly behind the DoD Boundary Connection Access Point (BCAP). With this approval, Zoom for Defense continues to strengthen its position as a secure, mission-ready collaboration platform for defense organizations.
DISA’s IL4 authorization reflects a comprehensive evaluation of Zoom for Defense’s security controls, compliance posture, and operational readiness. Achieving this designation demonstrates Zoom’s ability to meet the Department of Defense’s stringent requirements for handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and supporting mission-critical operations.
As the DoD accelerates adoption of commercial cloud solutions, DISA ensures that cloud service offerings meet the DoD Security Requirement Guidelines (SRG) for security, interoperability, and performance. With IL4 authorization on the NIPRNet, Zoom for Defense is validated for secure collaboration both within DoD networks and with mission partners connecting through approved internet-facing environments.
